This extension allows users to filter specific comments in artifacts in Modules. You can specify what comments Contains, who is the Author, from when to when the comment was updated, if it's resolved and what's its' priority.

IBM DOORS Next Generation lets users add comments to artifacts for better teamwork, but in big projects, handling numerous comments across thousands of items can be tough. Unfortunately, the tool lacks a way to manage comments effectively by sorting them based on author, date, or content. To solve this, Softacus created the Filter Comments widget. This extension allows users to filter artifacts based on their comments properties filtering. You can specify what comments contain, who is the author, from when to when the comment was updated, if it's resolved and what is its priority.
Use Cases and Features
Based on the functionalities and use cases that this extension is helping you with, we kept the user interface as simple as possible. The widget UI contains:
1.) Filter Comments widget UI
- Widget information section - section with version, short description and other information about the extension
- Filter Options:
- Comment Author - Combobox for selecting the author of the comments. All project area members are listed as an option. The widget returns all artifacts containing the comments created by the selected user.
- Directed To - Combobox for selecting the user to whom the comment was directed. All project area members are listed as an option. The widget returns all artifacts containing a comment that was directed to the selected user.
- Subject - Text field where you can type the word or phrase. The widget returns all artifacts where the subject included an exact match of searched word or phrase.
- Content - Text field where you can type the word or phrase. The widget returns all artifacts where the content included an exact match of searched word or phrase.
- Priority - Enumeration selection. The widget returns all artifacts with comments of selected priority. By design, only one priority value can be selected.
- Comment Resolved? - Yes/No selection. The widget returns only those artifacts where at least one comment and/or thread was marked as resolved.
- Comment Creation Date Range - The date range. The widget returns all artifacts including comments created or edited in the selected time range.
- Review comments - This feature is available only in the review of the module. The widget returns all review comments based on the selected filtering options.
- Filter Comments Button - after all necessary selections are made this button should be pressed to start an extension.
- Reset Filters Button - after clicking, all entered parameters are reseted .
This extension simplifies comment sorting by allowing users to effortlessly customize filter options. It works seamlessly within modules and module reports and also supports integration with views for more flexibility. There is a list of possible options and use cases:
- Working with Module Views: This can help save resources and speed up widget operations, especially in large modules.
- Working in all configuration types: The widget functions across various contexts including local streams, changesets, global streams, and personal streams within the module.
- Comment Author Selection: Users can select the author of comments using a combobox. The widget searches for authors in the User Name field.
- Directed To Selection: Users can select the recipient of comments using another combobox. Similar to selecting the comment author.
- Subject and Content Filtering: Users can search for artifacts based on exact matches in the subject and content fields.
- Priorities Selection: Users can filter artifacts based on the priority of comments. Only one priority value can be selected at a time.
- Comment Resolved Filtering: Users can choose to filter artifacts based on whether any comments or threads within them have been marked as resolved.
- Comment Creation Date Range: Users can specify a date range to filter comments based on their creation or edit dates.
- Review Comments: This feature is specifically for reviews. Users can choose to view only review comments based on selected options
- Multiple Selections: Users can choose multiple filtering options, and there's an AND relation between selections, meaning artifacts must meet all selected criteria to be included in the results.
2.) Filter Comments use case example
Preconditions and Restrictions
This widget is designed to work exclusively within a designated module and selected view. If the user fails to meet these prerequisites, the widget will display an informative message.
